Fresh Fall

Well once again fall is upon us! I love fall. I love the crunch of colorful leaves, the sudden crispness of the air, the smell of fireplaces warming homes, and the yellow blur of school buses filled with the buzz of excitement.

Although the world around us seems to be shutting down for the eminent cold of winter, for me there is something fresh and new that comes with fall, the same feeling I get at the start of a new year.

So let's start fresh once again this fall! Already nine months into this year I am taking some time to revisit my 12 in 12 list from January. How am I doing, you ask? Let's do a quick check-up!

  1. Spend more meaningful time with the people I love. -- Something I will constantly work for
  2. Love more and better. -- Another constant goal in my life, but right now concentrating on falling back in love with God
  3. Admit, confess, and explore my doubts in-depth. -- More coming soon
  4. Trust. -- Trust is being rebuilt, and it's a wonderful thing
  5. Take time to reflect. -- Improving, but inconsistent
  6. Explore and "define" what I believe. -- On this journey
  7. Explore how to live a life of love, peace, wisdom, and justice. -- Constant exploration
  8. Visit Nashville. -- YES! Aubrey and I visited the lovely Nashville this past March!
  9. Use my free time more wisely. -- Uh oh, naps count as wisely right...? Oh alright, progress needed
  10. Cook and craft more. -- Cook yes, craft, not so much. Working on fixing that soon and very soon!
  11. Read more, I'm shooting for at least 6 books this year. -- I have read 6 books already and I am truckin' on!
  12. Live healthier. -- Another tangible one! Yes, against all odds, I, Mollie Hogan, am now running, and ran my first race this summer! Miracles do happen people!

How are you doing on those goals set so many months ago? Start fresh with me this fall!

Don't you hate it?

Don't you hate when a blog you follow suddenly drops of the radar for months on end?

And don't you hate the excuse filled-apology begging post when they finally resurface from whatever the heck the have been doing for the last 5 months?

Me too.

Life happens. Things get crazy. And blogs get placed on the back burner.

Life's a journey and I'm blazing on. Hope you will join me.

The Gap

It can't really be March already can it? No, my last post surely wasn't in January... Eeek.

But instead of feeling guilt ridden like usual, I am actually finding some happiness in the gap, because the gap is not filled nothing, my gap is filled with something...something great...life.

I cannot say that there haven't been nights where I curled up on the couch to watch a show, or afternoons spent reading a book... but there have also been nights filled with great conversations that lasted until midnight and afternoons spent with dear friends celebrating the next phase of life.

So, instead of apologizing for the gap, I am choosing to celebrate it. Because I was living life, and while I do wish I had written about it more than I did, it was great.

Life. It's short and it's beautiful. Go live it. I am going to...and not only am I going to go live it, but i'm going to try to write about it more too...!

Make the world over

I have recently developed a love for globes and maps, and while I loved just my plain 'ole globe, I had the itch to spruce it up a bit, or really just do something fun to it.

I stumbled upon an idea that immediatly caught my eye on pinterest. The link took me to designsponge.com (which I quickly fell in love with btw) and to the Chalkboard Globe

So I set off on my DIY adventure, and to my surprise, I knocked it out in one sitting! It was so easy and the result was quite pleasing!

I love my new fun globe and all the possibilities that come with a chalkboard globe!

Whoops!

So remember George the rabbit, my early Christmas present. Isn't he cute?

Here is George opening his Christmas present from Lodi and Bo! (my mom and dad's "granparent" names!)

Well we took George into the vet for a little snip snip a few weeks ago. (sorry bud!) After a few hours I got a call from the vet, I assumed it was an update that everything went as planned. The vet told me that they hadn't started surgery yet, as George just wasn't himself. My stomach turned upside down as I prepared for bad news. As she continued on, she informed me that George was in fact a GIRL!

I am pretty sure I made my office's day with the hilarious news, and the vet's office got a kick out of it too!

So... all that to say, I would like to "introduce" you to Penelope George Hogan, our sweet baby GIRL rabbit! (we think she is just as cute as George, if not cuter!)

Isn't life funny?!

Dream On

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."

-excerpt from Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a Dream" speech.

What is your dream?

Martin Luther King did not have a dream for 10 years down the road, "I have a dream today". What would happen if we dreamed like that?

Martin Luther King looked at where he was, saw a problem, and dreamed big. I think that is what we are called to do as well. It is so easy to have a dream, but then say, well maybe someday I will be able to do something about it. Look at where you are RIGHT NOW, not somewhere you hope to be 2 or 5 or 10 years from now, and DREAM.

Dream big and dream present tense.
